Earwigs
Earwigs are 5/8th inch long and a dark red/brown color. They have two cerci at the end of their abdomen. These cerci are used for gathering food, holding food while eating, defense, and mating. While the cerci look ferocious they cannot pierce the human skin. Earwigs nest in moist dark areas outside such as under mulch, other organic debris and in cracks. Earwigs eat both plants and insects. They can do substantial damage to plants. Earwigs find their way inside purely by accident. There are no desirable harborage and nesting sites inside of homes for them to survive on a regular basis.
