Pigeons

Pigeon The feral pigeons that we see on our houses and throughout the city today are descendents of the Rock Dove. The Rock Dove is a cliff dwelling bird historically found in coastal regions. Pigeons come in many different colors grey, white, brown and black are the most common variations. The feral pigeon mates for life. They breed up to 8 times per year producing 1 to 2 eggs each time. The eggs hatch in about 19 days. It takes about 2 months for the young to leave the nest. Pigeons can be found almost everywhere these days. Once pigeons find a place to nest on a house or building they will loaf just about anywhere on that building. Common loafing areas are roof tiles, stucco moldings, downspouts, window ledges and chimneys. Pigeons are associated with over 60 different diseases and/or parasites. A pigeon infestation should be taken seriously and handled by a professional.
